I think they should have stopped production of the Superman movies when Chris Reeve died. He WAS Superman to a lot of people, including myself.
I did watch Superman Returns and while I think the movie was okay, I find it hard to warm up to a new hero the same way. I don't feel that same wild, excited feeling that I feel when I see Chris Reeve in the cape.

Brandon Routh did a fine job as Superman and he seems to truly respect the part. His 'Clark' persona was pure Christopher Reeve, through and through...
Tom Welling plays a great Clark and if he every became a costumed superhero, he would have to do a 'Superman' persona...
What I am trying to say is that they are playing totally different types of characters. Tom Welling is playing a character where Clark is the true person and Superman would be a mask. Brandon Routh is playing a character where Superman is the true personality and Clark is a disguise. I don't think that Tom Welling would do well in the format of the "Superman Returns" film. He has already established his take of the Superman mythos.
(This is also very similar to how Christopher Reeve's and Dean Cain's takes on the character were different. Christopher Reeve's having Superman as the real person and Dean Cain's having Clark as the real person.)

Tom Welling is a better Superman and he should have played him in the movies. Routh was ok...but he wasn't a big build. When I think of Superman I think of someone with big stature...and Routh just looked goofy to me.

Tom welling by far. for startes he is HOT hes like man perfection haha and he plays the superman character on smallville i mean how can you beat that! nobody can beat superman haha

Tom Welling hands down. He already play on "Smallville" so him playing in "Superman Returns" would have been perfect.
Plus Tom is way, way better looking to me.
