My girlfriend recently started on the birth control pill and about a month into it, has started experiencing a throbbing, sometimes stabbing, describing as "growing pains" in her legs. She's 17. Is this a common phenomenon?

as far as i know...NO it's not common.... in fact i think it is very dangerous... it could be a blood clot that could go to the heart or brain and cause a heart attack or stroke.

No, leg pains are not common with the pill. It's unusual.

This is an emergency! Your girlfriend may be having a cardiac event.

Is there anything else going on with her legs besides pain? Like swelling? Does she have a history of cardiac problems in her family? It sounds like she may have clots in her legs. Very dangerous. At 17 that is rare, though.

She should stop taking the pill and call her family doctor immediately. Tell him/her it's an emergency and what's going on. She may have to go to the hospital shortly after the call. Also, call the Gyn to make him/her aware of the situation.

I have never experienced this but it is something that she should have checked out immediately. She could have a blood clot in her leg, or it could be as simple as a pulled muscle that coincidentally happened around the time she started the pill.

she needs to get checked out ASAP - that could be a sign of a blood clot - the pill can have that side effect. it's VERY important she get to a doc. don't want to scare you but this could be a really serious thing. hope she's ok.

as the two previous Anwerers stated - touch your wellbeing care expert. My niece has this take place and disregarded it for some month; had blood clots and ended up with a week interior the wellbeing center on blood thinners. do no longer forget approximately approximately it.

I don't think her legs have anything to do with the pill. Have her go to a doctor and find out what it is.

She should report this to her doctor. This sounds like a negative reaction to this particular pill. Have her do it now. Take care.
