Ted Lindsay, amongst others, would definitely beg to differ on the suggestion that Maurice Richard never lost a fight. Definitely not true. Sounds like another Montreal myth. Canadiens were so good for so long, you don't need to make stuff up to show how awesome they are!
In any case, I like the Todd Ewen choice! Backed it up with some evidence, too! I might go with Probert anyway, due to sheer volume of successful fights. I watched him for a number of years, and I still get nightmares thinking of the guy. That said, I can't recall seeing Ewen lose too many. Interesting choice.

Best that I've seen would be Bob Probert. Although Troy Crowder may have a better fighter, but just couldn't stay on his skates. He too knocked Probert out(in his first game ever) and recently I read that Crowder was in the Canadian equivalent to the Golden Gloves.
Best ever would probably be Gordie Howe. No one even wanted to fight him, he was just too big and strong. Somewhere I read a quote from a guy that fought Gordie about how Gordie lifted him off the ice with one hand and punched the crap out of him with the other.

I'm surprised no Islanders fans have said Clark Gillies. He was so good, that he only had to fight 4 times a season. The Twister was good too. I have to mention Probert, Grimson, Tiger Williams, Harold Snepts, Paul Baxter, Dave Schultz, and Chris Nilan, but I think the best ever, especially for his size was the Tazmanian Devil, Terry O'Reilly.

I dont know who the best was. But the most entertaining had to be Stan Jonathan. That guy was so small and backed down from no one. He won a lot of fights against much bigger guys. Gary Howatt of the Islanders was similar but lost much more than Jonathan. Being that fighting isnt nearly as prevalant these days. It is hard to pick someone from this era. But Goddard holds his own and has had a lot of good fights. Unfortunately he has no skills at all and will more than likely be in the minors for a high percentage of his career. The minors are loaded with fighters that would beat most of the NHL players. They like Goddard dont have enough talent otherwise to get up to the big leagues.

Stu Grimson?????
I saw him get owned by McCarty and he is just a middle weight. Grimson was just big. He had a few good fights but he was only average. That is why he got passed around the league. Plus, he was one of the worst players ever to lace up the skates. Osgood outscored him from goal (no kidding look it up).
My vote has to be for Probert just because that is what all the fighters in the league agreed. From the videos on youtube I have seen other guys who seemed to dominate more but you gotta go with the guys who threw down with him.

well theirs lots of great fighters throughout the years but the great battle back in the days where true battles to today's holding and just standing and dancing around.
Dave Schultz vs Terry O'Reilly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofgE7DXvvWo&mode=related&search=
PROBERT VS DOMI, Domi is Proberts little *****. Domi is lucky for his big head to keep him standing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfSB-v-Vy2g
this is a funny one, Gretzky vs Broten. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boJZQXFMHFU
But the greatest player of all time Maurice "The Rocket" Richard could do it all. I'm not putting players down like Gordie Howe but what the Rocket had nobody could even come close to matching his ditermanation and he was all heart for the greatest game on earth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbk0ChMx95I
and a must see movie The Rocket, then you can really see what this guy was to hockey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFL8mwinLPM&mode=related&search=
and this is for all the people saying Roy got his *** kicked by Osgood nice try it was the other way around. Roy vs. Osgood

The toughest player I ever saw in pure fighting was Tony Twist. I know the popular choice is Proebert , but Twist was unreal.

Maurice Richard was. Not once did he lose a fight. And you cant forget that time he was fighting with another guy..i think it was either someone on the rangers or the bruins..and the ref was trying to hold him back..and richard turned right around and knocked out the ref. He was awesome.
