You'd solve this equation for x as follows:

3x - 2y = 6
Now add 2y to each side of the equation.
3x = 6 + 2y
Now divide each side of the equation by 3.
x = 2 + (2/3)y

But, see, you have a y in there. In order to get the y out you need a value to substitute in for it. Reread the problem and see if they give you a value for y that you can put in. If they don't, the best you can do is an expression with y in it like the one I gave you above.
Do your answer choices have y in them, or are they just numbers?

The sum is actually saying 3 multiplied by X minus 2 multiplied by Y is 6.
Therefore
3x4=12 (X=4)
2x3=6 (Y=6)
12-6=6
Hope thet helps

3x-2y=6
>divide both sides by 6
x/2 - y/3=1
>transpose -y/3
x/2 = y/3

I thinks there's missing information. Do you want to solve for x for a specific value of y? or for all posible values of y?

If you solve for x, you have:

x = (6 + 2y) / 3

and y can take the values from -infinte to +infinite, since it's a linear equation

this is a linear equation
let x = 0
-2y=6
-y = 3
y = -3
(0,-3)
let y= 0
3x = 6
x = 2
(2,0)

the expression you gave is a linear equation so it would be any point on that line, like (0, -3) or (2, 0) etc. im not sure what your asking then

3x-2y=6 3x-2y=6
3x=6+2y or -2y=6-3x
x=(6+2y)/3 y= -(6-3x)/2

You need to solve for y, as well as for x, since You have 2 variables.

there are 2 variables in the equation- and they are different. perhaps you thought they were the same and worked it like a regular equation.
