i own a repair shop and you need to check the fuel filter on it,it sounds like its getting stopped up,also check the air filter, they will get stopped up,and starve one for enough air so that it cant run good,if it was me id change both the air and fuel filter, these are both cheap items to change out,and might help solve your problem, good luck i hope this helps.

Take it to autozone to get it scanned for free also check your plugwire routing you may have crossed a wire also that air mod? put it back the way it was with the factory air tube and maf etc if your not familiar with mods ie fuel trims rich, lean etc you could fubar things your engine needs a stichiometric mix14.6 to be exact I do not know if you had issues prior but messin with the idle should NOT have had to be done put that BACK where it was as closely as possible the trouble is not in your idle screw!!!! you may have a plugged fuel filter the timing belt could have jumped a tooth get the codes pulled from autozone if your not familiar with your rig get some tools and a 95 mirage shop manual read it front to back get familiar before you dive in to it if you think you can fix it do so but if your gonna make it worse you may save some sanity and other stuff just taking it to a professional gl2u man.

I like the other answers, except that Autozone won't check out anything under 1996 for the "check engine" light.Turning the idle up just avoids the real problem. It's possible that the throttle linkage may have worn into an egg shape at the throttle body.I agree with dodgeman about the air and fuel filters. My exception to this is that you said you already tried an air filter.I would check the fuel filter and check the fuel pump pressure.

I would get the codes read, go to autozone they will do it for you. You probably have an O2 sensor burned up. Try that if you don't read the codes, they are usualy the cause of sputtering ect.
