Average hourly earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of pharmacy technicians in May 2004 were:
General medical and surgical hospitals $12.93
Grocery stores $11.77
Other general merchandise stores $11.11
Department stores $10.56
Health and personal care stores $10.51
You will be paid more if you're certified, but it depends on your experience too. Some employers will train you, others are starting to require a diploma, certificate or associate degree, since they may not have time to train.

College is not required for pharm techs. It does not make a difference on your salary, but certification does. A certified pharm tech makes several dollars per hour more than non-certified.
