If you are talking about social security tax, then it depends on whether you are an employee, or a contract worker or self-employed.

If you're an employee, 7.65% is deducted from each of your paychecks and sent in to the government, and the employer pays in an equal amount.

If you are self-employed, then you pay both halves, for a total of 15.3%. You'd file quarterly returns to pay in for what you made that quarter, then show the total amount on your tax return at the end of the year.
