You can do it but hp technical support wont help you if you have a problem. Its not covered in the warranty. If your going to do it anyway first, make a recovery cd. Then download the drivers for xp from the hp website. There is a trick to it. For example, If your model number is dv2220. Don't search for the specific model, search dv2000 and then choose dv2000 cto and it will have all the drivers for the dv2000 series. If you do dv2220, you wont get everything. I have done this before so i know, and thats how i found hp doesnt support xp. After you get the drivers burn it to a cd or if you have memory stick, use that. Then put your xp cd in and it will ask you to boot from the cd and push enter. Then format only the c drive, not the d. That way you can do a recovery if decide to put vista back on. If you ever call hp support, dont tell them that you installed xp, otherwise they will try to make you pay for support since its not included with the warranty. Here is the link to search for your drivers. Be aware that you dont need all the drivers.listed Just download the stuff thats on your computer that you need. Because they have intel and amd on that driver site. It should tell you on the box what you have.

I just got a new hp too, with vista, and yeah, it's not all it's hyped up to be, a bit cartoonish and not very stable. I was thinking of partitioning my hard drive and installing xp in it's own partition so I could choose which OS I wanted to use. But I am not sure exactly what that entails. Plus I don't have an XP install disk(s). I do have this cable I bought that transfers from one pc to another. Maybe that might work...hopefully! My hard drive has 500GBs so I have enough room, what about yours? Do you have the install disks (they're kinda pricey) for XP? If you do you can just F8 your computer as it starts up and reformat with the XP disks. Good Luck!

All you will need to do is find a good copy of Windows XP...format the hard drive and install Windows XP as you would on any other computer...

When you go any computer store they have plenty of computers on display to play.
Why didn't;t you play for a Long period till you would feel uncomfortable with Vista.

Any way all you have to do is install a XP CD and will erase the Vista OS and you'll have a new OS

If you have WindowsXP CD, you can uninstall Vista and install XP.

However, if Vista came installed or "bundled" with your PC, you will not have the CD to reinstall it at a future date if you wish. The seller may or may not let you buy the CD. I would check into this before proceeding.

Think about it. I know of lot of us are frustrated at having to relearn something with which we are familiar, but the world goes on and progresses. Hopefully, one day the programmers will give it a rest.
