I got everything set up and then I took the internet cord out of my PC and hooked it up to the laptop. The internet worked. Just a few hours ago, I tried to set up a wireless internet connection and it said "Please enter your password" and then it said my name that I use on my PC. I did not enter or register for anything. I did not type in my name. Could the internet cord on my PC be putting information on my laptop? And where can I retrieve this password at? Really confused, help.

Did you try to just hit without typing in anything? That's what I do. Just because it asks you to enter password, if you haven't set up a password, then leave it blank.

This "password" is called a WEP key.
You need it to connect to your router wirelessly. You should have set it up on your wireless router when you configured it. If you didn't set one, then just leave it blank and hit connect. If it doesnt work, plug the laptop back in with the wire, open internet, and type in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. Depending on your router you may have a different login, but it's usually admin for the username and a blank password. Once you're in, find the wireless settings and set up a WEP key, or leave it blank so its unsecured (anyone around can use your wireless, don't worry too much as alot of people leave thier routers unsecured)

Then try again with the wireless typing in the WEP key you setup or leaving it blank.

If it still fails, the back of your wireless router will have a little reset button. Using a pin, click and HOLD IT FOR A MINUTE. Yes an entire minute to make sure its completly reset. Try again, and it will reset the name of the router and the WEP key (password). When youre looking at your wireless connections it will simply be the strongest signal, but the name might be changed from what it was before.

Aren't I nice.

When you get a new lap top PC you need to first follow instuctions and prompts set up,user name,user/administrator account, register computer and operating system just like with a desk top before using.
A dial up Internet connection Has to have an ISP (Internet service provider). A wireless connection also has to have a ISP or you can connect at a hotel, coffee house-like Star Bucks-using wi fi,you can some times find free public access through a public library but first to be safe read up on security it is a little different than for dial up.
After you properly set up and register your computer and operating system go to Dell and Microsoft support for help.
You can also look at PC wireless for Dummies for help or possibly check book out at library.
Take a little time to do it right before using new laptop and enjoy.

No, but have you considered that you went to the same site as your home PC does, and it recognised info on a cookie or temporary file as yours? It then just loaded the connection to the laptop, thinking that it was the PC.
