Standard memory speeds vary from 133MHz to 400MHz & higher. The data is tranfered to & from the memory at these speeds on one channel.

Dual channel memory effectively doubles the tranfer rate because a 400Mhz module using two channels instead of one is like a single channel module running at 800Mhz.

Yes ... they are usually installed in pairs.

Both sides of the RAM card are used to interface the slot in the motherboard. One side per channel effectively doubles RAM usage.
