Yes, I agree with you, rap and r&b is seriously in critical condition, it just moved into the ICU with Mims' song on the top of the charts.

For r&b, I believe it fell off when neo-soul music began to come in. Music sells because of teenagers- they have the most time on their hands- if they dont like it, it wont sell. Old R&B is too clean for people so its considered soft. Neo-Soul is too deep for teenagers when we had people like Maxwell, Erykah B, D'Angelo, and others. And teenagers today didnt grow up on people from back in the day like Jagged, R. Kelly, the old Monica, Aaliyah, TLC, etc.

For rap, everyone wants something that they could dance to in a club. That's why beats today are more important than whats being said in the songs. Even in r&b you have to know how to dance in order to sell. The age of the lyricist is over. The era for the raunchy and bad is here. Instead of rapping about life's lessons and how we could change the world, people want to rap about what they have and how bad they are because of what they have. People today care about money more than image.

What happened to the days when music used to be metaphorical, where we had to try to guess what the artist was trying to say in their songs and let our imaginations work? What happen to the days when the word *** and ***** used to be censored on the radio? What happened to the days where one song would be so damn good that you couldnt wait to buy the whole album instead of downloading it?

I dunno...

I can't agree with you more! I can't tell you the last cd I bought because of that. I find myself listening to old r&b and hip hop, and modern and old alterative music and dancehall because the stuff that is a "hit" in the hip hop category these days is crap. It is all about money, cash, hoes ect and it has all been done before. And listenening to r&b does not mean you are a gay man, you just prefer that type of music.
By the way, since you listen to the older stuff, check out my question about club music...I hope you can answer :)

I don't think there is anything gay about listening yo R&B music. If you like it, just keep enjoying it. Don't worry, if you are not gay, the truth shall prevail eventually.
