A check is placed on a rectangular table 3 inches from one side of the table and 4 inches from the adjacent side. How far, in inches is the checker from the nearest corner of the table?
I seriously don't get this problem.
A simple locus question that I forgot how to do:
Which of the following is the equation of the locus of points whose ordinates are equal to -3? wtf is any ordinate..?

If you draw lines from the corner of the check perpendicular to the sides, you get a rectangle with sides 3 and 4. The diagonal of this rectangle (distance to the corner) can be found using the Pythagorean Theorem. So, d = 5.

The ordinate is the y coordinate ( x being the abscissa).
So the line y = -3, would give a locus having y coordinates -3.
