I tried to install a router to one computer in my home, and a networking card to another one across the house. For the card-comp, it'll connect to the router, but not the internet. I called the technical support at Belkin, and he tried to help, but said that my problem was some windows XP security thing, so that I needed to call the vendor or whatnot and turn that all off.

Can any give me a list of what to do? I've certainly had enough of phone conversations.

If you have windows xp service pack 2, you may need to go to the control panel, and then to the Windows Firewall applet, and if it is set to on, switch it to off, and see it lets you connect then.

Turn off all your firewall and try connect again. Especially the Windows Firewall. If it doesn't allow to, then you might need to check your router setting and status. Make sure your router login status is connected or else you can't connect to the internet.

Please state clearer about what router are you using, and whether the host can connect to internet or not. If your host computer can connect to the internet, then it's your network access problem. You have to allow your card-comp to connect to the internet.
