I own a shop, and what I think is this; Why guess at whats going on? Go have the codes pulled, and you will know what the problem is. Since the service engine light has appeared, then it makes sense there is something going on. It probably isn't anything to do with the fuel pump. I wouldn't rule it out, but if it has ran fine for two days, I would suspect something else such as an O-2 sensor, throttle position sensor, or just needs the injectors cleaned. See what the light is all about, and go from there to be sure.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

i own a repair shop, and i can tell you what it might be,especially if you used an original gm fuel pump on it,i put two of those things on a 98 model a few weeks ago and both of them was bad,and both was original gm pumps,it actually started worse with the new pumps than it did with the old pump back on it,i finally went and got an after market one and put on it,and that took care of it,its very possible you did get a bad pump, the way the parts business is these days ,anything is possible, you might want to have the pressure checked on it,its possible you too may have bought a bad one, good luck i hope this helps.

I would go the other direction and look at spark. The silverados have an individual coil for each plug and when one or two coils get weak the trucks get hard to start. They may run past the problem a bit once they engine has started and warmed up. Take each spark plug and carefully examine to see if they are firing, not covered with sooty build up. If you find one that isn't firing then you can suspect either the plug wire isn't doing its job or that coil has gotten weak.

Definitely sounds like fuel filter or the pump is going out. That and/or the regulator.

First line of diag would be to ck to see what code you have stored. If its not related to a starting problem, then the fuel pressure needs to be monitored while cranking,if it drops off during cranking then you have a defective pump.

Its ounds like a gasoline situation, spend a one hundred for a analysis at a community Chevy dealership to verify what it really is. more advantageous powerful than throwing parts at it. a minimum of they could assure a diag.

well if it runs fine, and it starts anyway, then im guessing the only problem is that its a 2000, 7 years after its made, it starts to tire out and lose its ol' shine :)
