As a partial answer to your question, your community college GPA will be considered when applying for admission to a 4 year university, but the GPA itself will not transfer. In other words, your GPA will reset when you enter a 4 year university. A "W" shouldn't have a big negative impact. You should, however, try to avoid a "WF" or "F". This answer is based on my experience and knowledge as both a higher ed faculty member and advisor. Good luck--- hope this helps!

W beats a grade of F any day because an F will have a detrimental effect on your overall GPA. Of course, too many W's doesn't look too good either but a few should not make a difference.

I had to use W before since I couldn't stand the professor I had. I started with community college, 4-yr and now am in Grad school. It's much better to have W than C or F since it won't affect your GPA.

A "W" grade is not an "F" so that means a "W" is in your favor. People understand that things come up and you have to drop the class.
So if it were me I would take a "w" over and "f" any day

As long as it is a W - passing and not a W - failing. When you apply or interview, you can always explain why you withdrew. A WF will go down as failing.

A "W" is a lot easier to explain than a "C" or "D" or worse.
Go for the "W" if the professor will allow it.
Not an "I"----right? a "W"
