in my opinoin most woman in that time era furthers the sexism that already existed. for example a part of this good wives guide states "a good wife knows her place".

I don't know of any women in the 1950's who have ever heard of the good wives guide. However the 1950's women really furthered sexism. They insisted that men treat them with respect. (disgusting isn't it) Doors were opened for them. They were subjected to all kinds of good manners. (Try that one today,oh boy) Oh, and sit down for this one, worse of all, most of them stayed home and raised their kids!!!! Kids in those days for the most part grew up to be well adjusted, decent human beings ready to contribute to the world. Well, we'll blame that one on those ignorant women living in their little sexist world.

I think that they furthered sexism unconciously; to them, they were just doing the right thing, or at least what was expected of them. However, I do agree that it is disgusting. Did they not think that women had a hard time raising the children and taking care of the house in the fifties? A stay-at-home mom's day didn't end at 5 as a man's did back then. And yet, they are still held to a double standard. This advice is demeaning to men, too. It treats them like they are babies who have to be pampered because they can't handle the slightest bit of noise or uncleanliness. Neither view is fair. I'm glad that we have come a long way since then.

If there were some way to do it I would give Papricka 10 points for the answer given !
What a way to live , bringing up your own children and then showing your husband how much you loved and appreciated how hard he worked all day to keep you all feed and a roof over your heads . Oh and what to say about all of those MANNERS {how dare a man show his love for his wife} come on . Opening car doors and holding her chair . He should be ashamed of himself !
Today the family has fallen apart, kids have No respect for anyone or anything ...Because Mom is not there to teach right from wrong ,manners and how to respect others and how to earn respect from others . Grandchildren today never interact with and learn from the wisdom of grandparents . The whole thing is gone awry , and some wonder why we are living in such a crazy, scary world ! Give me a break ! ! !
