Jersei- pronounce Jersey, is a favorite of my husband and I.
However, no one seems to like it. My grandmother says it means cow, and we should not curse our child that way. Even if it does mean cow, I dont think most know that. Jersi is the only name that my hubby and I can agree on! What do you all think?

If the two of you like the name, don't let anyone change your minds. However, if you think that it will cause a stir, don't tell anyone what the name is going to be until the baby has arrived and that name is legally attached to it.

I love the name. I'm a born and raised New Jersey resident. No matter how much cow droppings someone talks about my state I would always stand up for it. If you and your husband like then who cares what others think. Most people will think it's unique. Besides it sounds way better then some of these name I hear everyday. I don't think too many people know that Jersey means cow. Thanks for the interesting information and the points.

I researched the name Jersei and came up with a meaning of "Grassy Island" , I really like the name. I also like the name Journey which meaning is "A trip from one place to another" the meaning to mean represents to me is from your womb to your arms. Not that I am trying to change your minds or anything. How about a middle name of "Grace" meaning "by the grace of God". Just a suggestion. Congrats on the baby and you and your hubby have picked out a beautiful name for a beautiful baby!!

Jersey is a type of cow - it would be like naming her Rottweiler, and its common knowledge that Jersey is a breed of cow. Worse than that its a smelly horrible state - so depending on where you live people will think of her is a dirty place they don't want to go or a cow or a stinky sports tee-shirt. Try again!

Sorry, but a cow is the first thing I thought of, too. That doesn't mean I don't like it. I think it would be cute hyphenated with another name such as Jersei-Anne, Jersei-Lea, ect...

I love the name 'Jersey' for a girl. Don't spell it Jersei. My name is Emmaleigh (Emily) and I definetly wish that my parents hadn't tried to be 'different' when naming me. People can't pronounce it and it is just easier on the kid. Jersey is a unique enough name that it doesn't need an unique spelling.

I like it a lot.. I cant seem to find that it means "cow"... but rather, where a cow may go to - a grassy field or meadow. I am from NJ and am proud of it and have always liked the name for a girl.

I like it. And, again, I'm going to say my piece about name meanings. They don't really matter if you like the name. How many people do you know can tell you the meaning of your own name upon meeting? They can't. So, name your child whatever you please. It's your child. Not your grandmother's or anyone else that has some influence over you. I named my daughter Chloe Angelique despite my dad saying "Angelique" sounded too African-American.
