First, you don't write "a essay" it would be "an essay". Begin it with spelling your words correctly - "writen" should be "written"; use your spell check. Be certain to check your punctuation and capitalization.
You could start with a question: What is the American Dream? Your essay could answer this question. OR you could state what you think is the American Dream and you could defend it.

In order to write a winner, it's important to pick an interesting topic within the given theme. Pick some aspect of the central theme that stands out from others. Perhaps think about using an uncommon perspective of a common theme. You could interpret this theme thru the eyes of a time-traveler or an alien, or maybe a first-person account of an historical event.
Even familiar, often-recounted tales can become newly compelling when explored in unique ways.

before you write the essay itself, make sure you narrow down your topic... the theme given is 'the american dream' and frankly it's still too broad... you can write about, why so many people want to achieve the american dream or personally, what is the american dream for you... it's all a matter of choosing a topic that you're comfortable with and expounding on it...
next, write and outline of main ideas that you want to put in your essay... make sure the ideas are arranged logically so that it would flow into one essay... try to connect everything as much as possible
the best way is to start it creatively or in a manner that would catch thd reader's attention... the start of an essay is important 'coz if it doens't stimulate interest on the part of the reader, he'd most likely put the essay down after a few sentences...
when you write the actual essay, refer to your outline to help you so that the flow would be coherent... don't try to go in circles with your essay... make sure it has a direction... if your purpose is to inform, make sure that it would inform sufficiently.. if it's to express yourself, make sure it's not just irate ramblings of your point of view...
make sure that you explain everything in understandable terms... it doesn't do well to write an essay that's confusing and hard to digest...
ok, this may not be your style and i'm not forcing you to follow this since i usally use this pattern... try to use allusions, metaphors, symbolisms in some places to convey your ideas... it adds to creativity and when done well, can really do wonders for your essay... but don't force yourself to do this if you can't... if it works, it can be beautiful, but if not, it can just ruin your essay so be careful..
before submitting the paper, have it spell checked and ahve someone read it to get their opinion... that way, you see your piece in another perspective...
well, good luck! i hope this helps.. if you ahve any questions and/ or confusions or want to see a sample essay with everything i jsut wrote, just email me...

You kinda have to feel the writing in a way . Maybe talk about what you think the American dream is. what is the "American Dream"? ask yourself that question. Or write what your American Dream is. Idk whatever you do just make sure you bring your voice out in your writing and keep the reader interested. Don't try to think to hard about what your writing just do it. And your first sentence should be something to grab the readers attention but be sure it tells about the topic in your intro. I'm only 16 I hate writing and I have failed English like twice but I have gone over crap like this many times and I do like expressing my self as you can tell from this answer...I'm done now.

If it is about the american dream you could always write4 about how people want to come here to support there families and to make there own dreams come true, i am not sure what the essay should actually be about. in ur question be more specific so people can respond better.

depending on how many words the essay needs to be, if its usually under 800 words and u have strong points to argue then u should be fine, just remember quotes if possible because they always show refernce,a strong intro with just a breif outline on what your argueing, and a solid conclusion that stress's the point your trying to get across...
i dont have a clue on the american dream so sorry i couldnt help you out with getting any points
