I think they will be one of the Top 5 National League teams as long as they stay fairly injury free and the defense holds up.
Overall, I don't think their pitching is as bad as others have mentioned. I am worried about their defense up the middle though.
As far as hitters go, I expect Lee, Ramirez, Soriano and the Murton/Floyd combo to have better than average years. Rich Hill and Zambrano will be better than average as well. I am a little worried about Dempster as the reliever.

I dont think the cubs will do any better than last year becuase their pitching rotation is garbage. All they did this offseason was spend money on power hitters, which they really didnt need, and also on a bad coach who will probably will be ejected every other game of the year. The main part of a baseball team is its pitching, and they dont have very much of it. If they want to improve they are going have to buy some good pitcher, becuase Carlos Zambrono is good but not great.

Prior pitching in the minors and fighting for the fifth spot, Wood out with a "triceps strain" already, and hoping that Jason Marquis and Rich Hill can at least be decent is just a little of what spring training has looked like. The lineup is good, but they are going to have to win a lot of games 9-7. The NL central is weak, so I'm hoping that they will at least win the division, but I'm a cub fan, hope is all I can have.

I've had the pleasure of watching a lot of the Cubbies minor leaguers finally make it to the bigs.
Everyday, I get to see a lot more that goes on, than most people. I can tell you that we definitely have a shot this year, if Sweet Lou plays his cards right! Keep an eye out for Sean Marshall, he's going to be a huge asset to the team this year.

distinctive people might hate them for various reason, and lot of White Sox followers and Cardinals followers will say "The Cubs suck". yet they actually nonetheless do have followers besides, so they're only between the baseball communities that are the main enjoyed, via their followers, and maximum hated via followers of their opponents. This has only has been approximately constantly been the way, that they are hated via their rival team' followers the two massive ones are the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox.

well they definitely upgraded their offense with signing Alfonso Soriano and Cliff Floyd. But like every other year, their pitching is the question. Mark Prior will never be the same and isn't going to make the starting rotation. And recently Kerry Wood has felt arm pain. They have one solid pitcher in Carlos Zambrano, but i dont think thats going to be enough....I see them winning around 90 games but losing in the playoffs.....looks like the curse will continue until they fix that pitching staff

I still think that Stephen King should come to Wrigley. No curse can withstand Stephen King! lol I hope this year is better than last year. I went to a spring training game in Tuscon on Tuesday and they didn't look too bad (lost by one run to the Diamondbacks), but the only big name palyers there were Barrett and Eyre. But these pre-season games don't mean much.

Two words healthy pitching. Thats what it is going to take. Their staff is good enough to be a contender but if you have prior going off and having his arm fall off and zambrano pulling a butt muscle than no
