It's so true.... your next line is "as long as you live in this house you'll follow the rules". Just never point your finger - remember how much we hated that...

Don't feel bad. We've all done it. Our parents are our model for how we raise our own children and as much as we wanted to "never be like them when we had our own children", we all do some of the same things that they did.
I always remember something my Mom said to me in a fit of anger one day when I had done something awful. I don't even remember what it was now but I still remember her comment and it was probably 50 years ago now but it made an impression. She said, "I hope you have a child just like you when you grow up."
Well, I did. My son was EXACTLY like me and just as obnoxious as I had been as a child. But I turned out okay and my son is 26 now and he turned out okay. I KNOW I turned my mothers hair gray with some of my antics!

Change your ways
Say, Oh, I'm sorry, you must have forgotten. I guess we'll have to talk about that tomorrow. Then turn the light out and leave.
Next day. when calm, establish a punishment. It won't be as bad as he worried all night thinking it was going to be!
Express empathy, leave with a promise of things to come ( punishment), and plan the punishment. Make sure you don't forget, or waver from your plan. If you waver, . . . .he's got YOU!

You must have had wonderful parents. Ones that "actually" cared about you. It isn't a bad thing being like them. You turned out okay, right?
Keep reminding them that it is "your" house and it is a privilege just to live there. When they are out of your home they can make their own decisions.
My daughter that I nagged about lights, well she has said to me. Don't forget to turn out that light when you're done. And I just laugh under my breath.
Keep showing your kids that you care and love them. By all means protect them from themselves.
Wish I'd of had that kind of love.

My mom was a fantastic mom and she has passed so I actually love it when I sound off just like her..she was a firecracker and i know its sounds funny but its the way I keep her with me..don't get me wrong she wasn't terribly harsh just has a wonderful sarcastic humor tone at all times even when scolding the kids.

Not only do I look like my mother, I act like her and my daughter acts a lot like me.....
My favorite to use is "Be the job large or small, do it right or not at all"......but that backfires...rofl.
Seriously, we all take things from our parents and use them....as long as you don't beat them, and love them, it's all good. However, I'm grateful that I sound like my mother...She is now dead and it makes me feel like I have a part of her with me when I say something she used to say......It's not just what you say, but what you do behind the words.....

I've been doing it for a while, I try to catch myself cause it totally cracks me up! I laugh with my parents when I do it. My oldest is 12 and I'm sure this started when he was at least 3...

I could do a better job being a parent than my Mum and Dad.
My Dad doesn't live with us. He pretends he knows about us when he really doesn't. He sends us money.
My Mum is to absorbed in her own life to care about mine or my brothers.

we never realize it until we have kids of our own. then it all comes back to us, only now we understand why they yelled at us. did you also get the mothers curse. the one where they say.." I hope you have kids 3 times as bad as you are" and then I had 3 kids. and the last one being my daughter who is 3 times as bad as me. just in herself. boy am I paying now for that one.
