my husband and I talked about this about a year ago. We are both mixed and we do agree that mixing is good because it lessens the chance of have mono-racial diseases. it does reduce the chance of having mentally disabled and retarded children. although don't get me wrong, i am sure some mixed couples have had children with diseases and disabilities...and I'm not trying to say mixed people live longer but if you look at dogs "scientifically", purebred dogs have a higher number of diseases and hereditary conditions than mixed breeds...the more we mix, the longer we may live...although it is a theory right now but some scientists might find it to be true...oh i know i am going to have some thumbs down on this one

This is a good question because I wondered about something like this myself. My grandfather died from sickle cell anemia, a disease that is only found in the genes of black people. When my mom found out she was pregnant with me, she was very scared that I would be sick because my dad's side carried the trait. Luckily I am fine but I worry if I will carry the trait and my kids might have sickle cell since the trait skips generations. I always wondered about if the chances would be lessened if I married and had children with somebody outside of my race. I mean whoever I fall in love with it will be just that regardless of color but still I've always thought about that.
Your question gets a star from me!
