Unforunately, there is no such thing as a "low electrical usage" air conditioning unit.

I'm guessing you will need a 120V unit, unless your room has a 240V outlet for some unusual reason.

The best way to approach it is to measure the room, determine the cubic volume, and then shop for uinits that are sized for the volume of air in the room.

There is little sense running a two-ton A/C unit in a 7 x 12 bedroom!.

Hank covered most of this. But I would say to take it a step further. It will cost initially more, but operate cheaper.

Go for the highest SEER rated unit you can afford, that meets the room size info Hank talked about.

It will have energy saving features like this: A saver mode that will shut off the circulating fan when you are away. The water condensation it collects will be routed outside and the fan blade will have a special edge that scoops up this collected water and sprays it over the hot coils outside to provide additional cooling while it gets rid of it.

These kinds of features reduced my monthly bill be 15% over my previous window unit. Mines a GE Profile and I love it! Even has a remote control. Leave the remote near the door to remind you to kick it into efficiency mode and raise the temp a little before you step out for a while.

Look for the ENERGY STAR on the AC box. Those are designed in accordance with the US Dept of Energy and have the highest Ratings in SEER. So look for the highest SEER rating.

Go to Walmart or Lowes or Depot, like in mid May or Early June. They sell at surprisingly low prices. I bought a high SEER EnergyStar AC at Lowes for $69 last year.
