He seems to think he can do it but first we need to have the stator and rotor rebuilt. We have checked many places in the yellow pages and internet and cannot find anyone that rebuilds this type of generator (portable for home use). Is there ANYONE out there who can help? We want to keep this job in the VA/NC area

I have wiring diagrams for the DeVilbiss lineup available online. Perhaps some troubleshooting will assist with finding a problem other than the rotor / stator.

Check on eBay for a replacement part. I've often seen full bolt on assemblies removed from dead engines. It would likely be cheaper and easier than getting yours rebuilt.

I have other generator information on my web page...

A rebuild of both stator and rotor will cost you more than anew machine, is my guess.

What has happened to the machine that requires a rebuild that extensive? Have you tested the rotor and stator? Shorted? Open?

Just rebuilding them for drill is really expensive, and, while stators often fail, rotors seldom need more than a commutator turn and the mica cut back.

I can't imagine this will be a bargain. I don't think you need a new generator, but you can buy a new or rebuilt generator portion.

Try: www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_9040_9040

This is only 5500 watts, but they have a 10KW. At least you have some prices for comparison to help you decide about the rebuild.

If you don't get any better answers, try an automobile electrical shop that rewires alternators and starters. They should be able to match the right size windings and do whatever needs to be done.
