I'm thinking about moving to the Everyville neibourhood. Does anyone know how it is? Is the downtown-SF distance really so short? Is the view really that good? And how is the safety there, as it is pretty close to Oakland?
Thanks!

Parts of it are OK, especially down by I880, but without going and looking more carefully that's the only area I'd think of living in round there. The area to the north and east isn't so great.

it is undergoing a change of image as a city. Ikiea and pixar are there as well as a nice, new, shopping center, and lots of new condos. Although it is close to Oakland, it is safer. On a clear day the views of the city and the Bay Bridge are beautiful. It is a good spot for a SF commuter but is probably more suited for singles or couples who want to live in an apartment or condo; i'm not sure it is very family oriented. Emeryville is very diverse and vibrant and every race would feel comfortable there. Think "Berkeley" rather than "Oakland"

Emeryville was once very impoverished, but it has gentrified cosiderably since the 1990s. Although its close proximity to the ghettos of Oakland makes some people nervous, Emeryville itself is quite safe as long as you exercise common sense.

As we speak, new condos and malls continue to go up along the I-80 and I-580 freeways. Emeryville is also home to several high-tech offices, including Pixar and Kodak's online photo developing service. Emery-Go-Round provides free bus service (every 10-12 minutes) that connects with the MacArthur BART station, allowing easy access to the city.

If you're fortunate enough to live along the bay, the views of Downtown San Francisco are great (comparable to seeing Manhattan from Staten Island), and they're only going to get better as the three 1,000 - 1,200 foot Transbay Towers slowly go up over the next 10 years.

I personally love the Emeryville area with the new condos and apartments by the Amtrak station... good distance to SF by car and a free Emery Go Round to the Macarthur Bart station in Oakland. Lots of shops, restaurants, stores and the bus is pretty reasonable... its kinda pricey though but nice sized apartments...

safety is excellent ,
distance to Sf is really close. the freeway entrane is a short cut that takes you all the way to the toll booths.
the view is good but the skyline of Sf is blocked by treasure island. but there is the problem of earthquakess. most of the city is built on land fill taht is suceptable to extreme shaking.
