I am being monitored twice a week for pre-eclampsia they took blood but everything came back fine.. my blood pressure was up to 142/98 when its usually around 117/80 or something like that.. but anyway how long do they generally wait before they choose to induce you? if my BP is high; but my blood work comes back okay.. do they still induce you? i'm 36 wks pregnant what do you think the chances of them doing it next wk are... baby is already between 6 1/2 - 7 pounds...

I have had pre-eclampsia 4 times. The first time I was induced at 23 weeks because I had toxemia, had bp of 210/180, my son did not survive. I have been induced at 36 weeks, 34 weeks, 33 weeks and 28 weeks as well. I just had a baby (unplanned my husband has had a vasectomy) in January at 28 weeks baby was 2 lbs 12ozs..because of my history and because my bp was 180/112.....and rising and I had 2-3+ protein.

Long story short, they do not mess around when it comes to pre-eclampsia.

PLEASE, if you develop a severe headache or see flashing lights get to L and D immediately. I would take the suggestion above and get a bp monitor at home...take your bp every 4-6 hours for a average for the day...if your bp goes higher than 140/90, take again after laying on your left side for 30 minutes or so...if it remains high or you have several readings that high, call your Dr or go to L and D.

You can lay on your left side preferably, but you can also lay on your right side. Take it easy and rest as much as you can.

Since you are 36 weeks, and anything after 37 is term, if you get anything over 1+ protein in your urine and several high readings I would suspect they will induce you.

I am sure it will all be fine, and it is much better if you do have pre-eclampsia to be induced, so try not to worry (that will only make your bp go up) and get everything you can ready....

Good luck to you and if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me.

I have only one kidney that functions at 20 percent. My other kidney is dead. While I was pregnant, their main concern was that I would get Pre E. My blood pressure was very normal throughout the whole pregnancy until I got to about 32 weeks. From then on my blood pressure seemed to spike.

Unfortunately, they took my blood work and told me that everything was fine too. Then, I went into the hospital because my face would not go back to normal color. It was bright red. I was 37 weeks exactly that day. My doctors admitted me because my blood pressure was so high, but they chose not to deliver me yet. They did take blood. Then they found out that not only was I pre eclamptic, but I was also in the beginning stages of HELP syndrome. Not a good thing. Anyway, to make a long story short, the next morning at 6 am they came and told me that today would be the day. I lucked out because the pitocin that they gave me for inducing labor actually caused my blood pressure to go down a little so I was able to deliver vaginally.

If your blood work comes back bad they will definatley choose to induce you. And, if your blood pressure gets any higher they may have to give you a c section instead of allowing you to deliver naturally. I would buy a home blood pressure monitor so that you can check your blood pressure randomly every day. Thats what my doctors suggested. It helped because I was able to know exactly what my measurements are when I called the doctor.

Laying on your left side will help out with the high blood pressure a little. I know its impossible to lay on your left side all day, but for yours and your baby's sake, I would try to do it as much as possible. There was a big difference in my blood pressure while I was in the hospital laying on my left side, compared to when I was sitting up.

Good luck, Im sure you and your little one will do just fine :)

They will most likely wait til you are past 38wks to induce you. That is when they consider the baby being full term and out of harm. So stay off of your feet and no sodas, no salt, and watch your carbs if possible too. Good luck!
Also I do not know what the 1st person is talking about.. they can induce you and if needed you can have a C-section too. A c-section is the safest way to deliver with high blood pressure b/c there is less stress on you and the baby. I believe she is confused about something.

As I understand it, the bottom number is of more concern to the doctor. At two days shy of 35 weeks my daughter was born due to borderline toxemia. My BP was at 150/110, they were afraid I was going to have seizures, she had a "non-reassuring" heart rate, and the heck of it was I felt FINE. I ended up having a section, because the doctor thought I would be 8-12 hours in labor and the baby was not doing well. He said she would be four pounds, she was 5 lbs 15 ozs, so he missed by 50%. She was also fine, could breathe on her own and nurse, so I was really lucky. I think quite a bit depends on how the baby is doing, but also how high you get and if it stays up. Good luck!

Its really hard to get an accurate weight while they are still inside, my baby was supposedly 8-8.5 lbs at 36 weeks but was 6lb4oz at birth at 39 weeks. If you are getting protein in your urine and your bloodpressure is still rising they will monitor you more closely in hospital for a couple of days and if it doesnt stabilize they will probably induce you then. They wont generally induce with a baby less than 39 weeks unless its very, very necessary. A baby's lungs arent developed enough till then, the earlier they are born the longer they will have to stay in hospital! Good luck!

my doctor had been monitering my bp for a few weeks and it was elevated for a while but i never swole up...well one day my husband came home from work at 6am (he works nights) and I was really swollen,so we went to the hospital for my NST and my doctor told me he wanted to induce that day...so my daughter was born at 36 weeks 6 days, she only weighed 4lbs 12oz but i'm kinda small myself...she was healthy though,I hope you don't get full blown pre eclampsia like i did because it was horrible,i was scared to death because i didn't have anything ready...in fact i was planning on packing my bags for the hospital the next day but it was too late...so my advice is if you havent already done it pack your bags and keep them in the car...and also if you just feel something is wrong after 37 weeks ask your doctor to induce you because it's better to go ahead and deliver than to wait and possibly cause more damage to yourself or your child

EDIT: also they told me 2 weeks before she was born she would be around 6-6 1/2lbs on the u/s well she was only 4lbs 12oz...but she didn't have to stay in the hospital or anything...so we were very blessed with her

They didn't wait with me. I was induced around 38 wks b/c or really really HIGH BP. I was pregnant with twins though, so that might have been a factor. I bet if it keeps rising or if your urine has protein in it they will consider induction soon.

they will continue to monitor you very closely and your doctor will decide when your blood pressure is too high (its elevated now-- probably around 160/110) to induce you. He/she will also be closely monitoring your baby's movements and heart rate to make sure its not stressed. AND they will monitor the protein out put in your urine to further determine when its time for your baby to come out.

They want you to be safe, but they are trying to let your baby stay in your belly as long as possible.

Depending on your labs, they are probably trying to wait until 37-38 weeks when they know your baby's lungs will be nice and ripe and ready to go.
