You could try rubbing a strong magnet across it. Like from the back of an old speaker, they're usually real strong. But it will erase everything, so be careful! And keep the magnet away from your watch, if you wear one!

Why would you want to erase a HD in a copy machine? Is the machine yours? I would check with the manufacturer before you make any changes to a piece of equipment that you may be unable to undo.
Copier HDs are just like PC HDs and scanned information is stored (if only temporarily) in memory before printing (A good reason to not copy your Tax Forms at work).

I'm guessing you mean a backup on an external drive. If you do, click on My Computer, Right click on the drive you want to clean, and select "fomat'.
