Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series would make an excellent anime. It's a supernatural series set in an Earth where a virus has wiped out a large chunk of the human race. The virus did not effect supernatural beings like witches, vampires, weres, pixies, etc which all exist in the story. The supernatural beings "come out of the closet" after the virus, so humanity is aware of them in the story's background. Rachel Morgan is a witch who works as a sort of a vigilante law enforcement agent. She gets tangled up in all sorts of interesting trouble, winds up with a pixie and a vampire for a partner, tangles with demons, and so forth.

I'd love to see an anime feature of Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers. The live-action movie sucked.
