There can't be more than one band with the same name. Once you make a single, your name is copyrighted. But once you disband, your old name is free game.
Rise Against may have had a Christian band hold that name before. The metal band you heard has it now.
Once there were two bands called The Beat. They went to court. The more famous of the two changed to The English Beat and had hits from that name. The Paul Collins Beat did not have to change.

There aren't 3 of them. Although I used to like Rise Against, once they started hanging out with emo bands, they were immediatley on my bad list. I like who they were, and not who they've become.

I don't know. A lot of people like to just copy the name of another band. I really like MRC and I know which band you are talking about, both of them rock!
