Microsoft Word will not allow you to just CLICK out of it. It would ask you if you wanted to save the changes to the document. You mean you answered NO to this?
Try clicking on the Undo arrow at the top of the screen. If this doesn't work then your document is gone.

hi i also have the same situation before then i go ask for help at Microsoft. what u can do is.... but this is up to what type of problem it is if the document is still there but u unable to open why don't you try this. you go to Microsoft word then go to file and open. select the document then at the open tab there is an arrow press it then u will see a few option choose to open and repair.

If not you might try checking your "recent documents" tab in the start menu (if you opted that function on as well in the properties menu of the start button). Lastly, you could check your trash and retrieve it from there. Good Luck!
Oh, maybe check the "file" menu in MSWord. It may be listed toward the bottom of the drop down menu.

You must have clicked TWICE, because Word would have asked you if you wanted to close without saving and you would have had to say "OK".
I think it's a goner.

no way of recovering it.. the only way your computer ever saves a file automatically is when your computer crashes and it suddenly restarts. then when you open up the word processing program you were using, it'll open as (your file name)(recovered) or something of the sort...

oohh, I am afraid it is gone. Sorry. Boy that sure does bite doesn't it. The only thing I can think of is, are you printing it? Is it in the print mode and hasn't been printed yet?
