Back in the day of the Goths and the Romans, they used to cut coins (mainly silver coins) in half to make change; so initially I thought that was the direction of the question. Heh, but since I'm here anyways I will say a quarter, the quarter being the non-nickel, and a nickel.

Heh, I've been asking this one since I was in elementary school; it's amazing how many people fall for it.

The answer, of course, is a quarter and a nickel; one of the coins (the quarter) is not a nickel.

If this is your hobby, I'd strongly recommend that you ask another question: suggestions for a new hobby!

Of course, one isn't a nickel but the other one is. There's actually a category in Answers for words and wordplay. It's under the broader category of 'Education,' but it's mainly for fun. They ask riddles and tell jokes on that one all the time. I think you'd enjoy it. Have fun.

Well, if you were in the right era of US history, you could have a twenty cent piece, and a dime. Since any US-issued coin can still be used for legal tender at face value today, you could still use them in change, although I'm sure you'd get plenty of funny looks for it.

But then again, I like throwing cogs into the woodwork.
