MAP sensor = Manifold Absolute Pressure = the pressure inside the intake manifold with atmospheric pressure factored in. It is a sensor that "inputs" this information into a vehicle's PCM (powertrain control module) that helps to determine engine load, into order for the PCM to "decide" how much fuel to deliver (fuel injector "on" time) to the engine. Hope this explains it well.

It's a method of measuring how much air is going into the engine. Usually used instead of an air flow meter, especially on turbo cars as it can measure both negative pressure (vacuum) and positive (boost).
