Also...are they a shrub or a tree. I know there are lemon trees but on some websites it says they can be both.

lemons are trees, mine is 3 years old and about 20 feet tall before i trimmed it down,, you can get dwarf trees also,, and they all depend on how old they where when you planted them,, I planted mine as a seed in a pot and it had a few lemons the very next year! now I get over 300 lemons from it every year!! I now trim it down every year other wise it would be way too tall to get the lemons

Lemon plants are small and they bear small fruit.
However the ones that are over 4" tall usually produce larger lemons, this is also deteremined according to the plant family.

To get your lemon plant to bloom & produce you want to STOP feeding it. Feeding it only after the blooms are on the limbs. When you DO feed it, use lemon plant food or a fruit tree plant food. Fish Emulsion is AWESOME for all plants, but you also need something that is FOR the species you have.

Lemon trees and other fruit producing plants usually begin producing after the 2nd or 3rd year. However there are those who take longer. Not knowing the genus, family, and other things about your plant I cannot be more specific.

If you can supply these to me via email, along with the plant's Latin Name, I can be of further and better help to you.
