No, she had her time. Even though she beat Maria Sharapova, I don't think she is capable of doing that again, or beating any of the other elite female tennis players (i.e. Amelie Mauresmo, Justine Henin-Hardenne, etc...) I think she will continue to maintain her place between the elite and the middle-tier.

It will be tough for her to do so. First of all she will have to put together a consistent season, which she has not done for the past few years, it has been Great tournament, bad tournament. She will have to stay healthy which not to repeat myself she has not been able to do the past few years, it seems like the injury bug is constantly biting her, and she has to take long lay offs. Serena will have to play a few more tournaments then she has the past few years to get enough points. She can not play a schedule that even when she is healthy she plays one tournament every two months. She needs to play at least eight I would think. All that being said she certainly has the talent to do so and is off to a good start. Her performance at the Australian open was incredible so she still does possess the talent and the weapons to take her to the top spot. It is the intangibles that will keep her from number one. None of us here know for sure , but I vote that she will not be number one again. I do think she will win another major in her career though . She was tough on the hard courts Down Under , I see no reason why she would not be just as tough on the hard courts at the US Open in Flushing especially with a crazy NY crowd rooting for her.

She could. If she won a grand slam tournament without a lot of practice...she could very well become number one again....if she plays enough matches and win them. She's got the talent...she and her sister just doesn't have that dedication anymore...they played very little tennis last year so if they play all the big tourneys they can only go up in the rankings....any place to get even losing is the 1st or 2nd round will earn them some points compared to not having any to protect like the others. That's how Martina Hingis is so high up in the rankings right now. She's good but she's pretty high up in the rankings because she never played a single tournament in 2005 so any match she played last year when she returned earned her some sort of point....same for the two sisters.

Yes she can regain the number one spot and it can happen this year. She has no points to defend until the hard court season near the U.S open. So if she plays a few tournaments and win them he ranking will sky rocket and she can definitely win Wimbledon(if someone takes out venus) and the U.S open and if she does that, she will have the #1 ranking.

No, because not only have the rest of the field (and new girls) grown in their games and have adapted to many styles, you can't go on with purely with, at times, unnatural power and too many unforced errors. In the long run, all-court game and variety define tennis and separates itself from the rest.
And no, it's not "it depends on her', or 'whether she wants to or not" as the american media keeps on saying this. It's not up to her to be at the top, but it is up to her whether or not to play and get into match shape. She's not rocket science you know, the field has become better and more complete in their games.

I think she is completely capable of regainig the #1 position. If she plays the remaining of the year and get back in top shape she will. She has a champions mind and the winning attitude to go along with it. Women's tennis kinda sucks. I prefer to watch men.

Not if she makes guest appearances in just grand slams, and stays away from other tournaments with an extraordinarily large number of 'injuries'.

honestly I don't think so, I would like her to though. She is plagued too much by injuries in my opinion. However I think she can still win at least three more grandslams.
