As long as he is in a filtered and heated tank you can include things like small tetra, cory cats, guppies, platys, killifish... all kinds of things. Any small peaceful fish will do very well.

Bettas would desire to be in a 5 gallon, and would under no circumstances be in a tank under 3.5. Bettas are tropical fish that want heated water between seventy six-eighty 4 levels F. they gained't be comfortable devoid of it, an you are able to not effectively warmth a tank that small. That damaging Betta extremely has room to swim! For any tank friends, you want a minimum of four gallons. With that, you are able to upload 3 or 4 ghost shrimp and a Nerite snail. in case you want different fish, you genuinely want a minimum of 10 gallons. Tetras are training fish and could be under pressure in the event that they're in communities of under 5-6. they want numbers and room to swim. they're very lively. Catfish would desire to be in communities of four+ and that they are additionally too lively for something smaller than 10 gallons. they fairly need greater like 15. purely Pygmy and Cory catfish can pass in something around that length. Please improve your Betta tank, he merits greater helpful.

Yipppeee!!! Someone that actually knows that their Beta is male. Actually you can put in many different types of fish in with them. The rule of thumb that I kind of go by is that...get a fish that is equally aggressive as the current fish if not then get a little bit bigger than the current. By getting a fish that is bigger but more mellow the beta will usually leave them alone due to the intimidation factor. However, the best thing to do is to talk to the people at the pet or fish store that you use. They will have the best info and best recommendations as to what the perfect companion for your beta will be.

well you shouldn't put anything with him in anything less than a 10gallon, filtered and heated. bettas can be kept with other fish but are territorial so they need enough to feel they have their own territoy.
in a 10gallon you could try 5 small schooling fish. so most tetras (although tetras can be fin nippers so be careful when choosing them), cory cats, moons/platies, mollies, and small PEACEFUL gouramis.
avoid goldfish, these are cold water fish and produce too much ammonia. plus you'd need a 25gallon tnak for one goldfish and a betta. avoid danios, they are too fast, they will nip fins and eat all the food before the betta gets to it, this goes for some kinds of tetras. barbs and gouramis should be chosen carefully, they can be agressive.
whatever you choose, be sure you plant the tank well with silk or real plants, and provide plenty of hiding spots.
*EDIT*
1.5 gallon tank is too small for any fsih friends. you can try getting a single mystery snail.

Shana,
Unless you have a tank that will support a community tank,...don't
worry about company for him.
In a community tank, try fast moving, schooling species such as neons,
cardinals,zebras,whatever.
Look at the tanks in your local aquarium shop & observe what they've
got in there & how many "floaters" they have.
While being a beautiful creature, bettas can be a genuine pain in the rear.

I don't recomend putting other fish with your betta unless you have a good sized tank, 5g+. Even then test for aggression, add a pair of feeder guppies and see how he tolerates them. If it goes well try adding other non aggressive fish like Danios, Cory Cats, Tetras and other small fish. Avoid barbs, cichlids and gouramis, they will kill the betta or get killed, well the chance for violence is high.
I have 9 Bettas and only 1 is anti-social enough to kill the guppies. The rest co-habitate just fine.

I keep my betta with my guppies and a cory cat. He loves it. Sometimes he whips up on my male guppy, but he for the most part leaves him alone.
His tank got to cold so I ended up putting him in the guppy tank as a last resort, and they all LOVE him. He swims and couldn't be happier.

Neons should be OK, sometimes Guppies can be a problem by picking at the Betta. NO BARBS or other aggressive / semi-aggressive fish.. they will kill and eat the Betta.

You shouldnt put any type of fish in with a betta. Because the betta will almost always kill the other fish dont even put in another betta fish because they will fight even if ones female and the other male. Inless you like seeing fish kill each other!!! but of you must put in another fish do a another betta.male bettas are most mean so be careful.
