Typically, this sounds like a virus to me. Try downloading and installing Avast Antivirus Home Edition. Once installed, let it do a boot scan at the next reboot to check for viruses. If it finds some, use Repair or Delete to get rid of them.

If that doesn't fix the problem, two other programs you might want to try downloading and installing are Spybot and Adaware to check for spyware and adware.

Finally, you might also want to try CCleaner which is a utility for clearing out "junk" on your computer.

I can't tell what's happening, but you should have at least 512 MB of ram installed.
You should download and install AdAware6 (lavasoft.com) and Spybot Search and Destroy ( Google it). If you are using DSL or another broadband connection, you should download and install ZoneAlarm ( Zone Labs.com), ALL free downloads. ZoneAlarm is a two-way firewall. The one in Wxp is one way only.
If your problem is of recent origin, you can try using System Restore:
( Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. )
You will see a calendar with some dates darker than others. These are restore points. Choose a date prior to the time you began having the problem, and follow the prompts. Your OS will be restored to the way it was set up on the day you chose. No data will be lost, but recently installed programs may be affected, though not usually.
Good luck!

Your machine is stuck in a loop, have you tried booting into safe mode? If you haven't try it, if it still loops, start up then shut down, you'll need to repair your Windows installation.
I put a link below to the Microsoft site with step by step instructions for you.
Do you have any Symantec products on your machine? PC Anywhere will sometimes cause this problem.

I use a free antivirus in my system
this is the link
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
It works very well for me, click in the download link for English than run it, it will ask after is completely installed if you want to run an one time boot scan, do so, the antivirus itself will remove the viruses if there is one.
or
Click start then choose run , type msconfig and choose in the general tab diagnostic mode and see if the system works faster, if it does it is definitely a problem with windows, so you can use the link I send you.

You do not say if you are getting a blue screen before it resets!
It COULD be a OS fault.
But Windows will shut down if a driver is going to damage your computer.
Start your computer in safe mode.
press f8 at start up, and select safe mode.
Run your computer and see if it stops again!
If not, then re install ALL your drivers.
If it does, then it could be a motherboard problem!

After reading the supplied link, I would have to say that it may be that your Power Scheme maybe affecting your PC's performance - if you have it set to Home/Office, it will try to conserve power and this means that it will eventually shutdown after a long period of not using it. If the computer hangs up before it shuts down, than it may be that the computer freezes just before it goes to shutdown/lock. I would either set your Power Scheme to Normal, or set it so that it does not use one. Thanks! : )
