actually, forensic psych pays a lot more than 50k, it's one of the higher earning fields within psych and it's growing by leap and bounds. there are many sub areas of forensic, the more lucrative are court related where licensed psychologist are hired as expert witnesses. some charge as high as $500/hr (including prep and travel time). But you need to put in your education, get a ph.d., license, then get experience. it's a great field but it takes one that has a strong stomach.

One thing that I can maybe teach you is this, look for the sources of money and power, they both are able to cover up a lot of things and have the right influence to keep others mouths closed. That doesn't take to much psychology it takes a lot of common sense and life. Read fiction books on stuff like this and study the characters in them. Some of the greatest mystery writers understand people like this and they have no or little professional training on this just good imaginations.

Criminal Psychology is definitely one of the preemptive courses you will have to take just to get near the possibility of working in any type of job that deals with "Cold Cases".
