Sydney Crosby...there cannot be even a discussion here...he almost single handedly saved hockey in Pittsburgh as a franchise player and her has the most points in the league..he also beat the great one for youngest player to reach 200 points...

Player or team? You have not indicated what the category is that you are looking for the "best" from. I suggest that next time, if you want any serious answers, you indicate precisely what category of "best" you are asking about.
Now, because you have not indicated which category you would like a "best" chosen from, I will talk about which team is best, as well as which player is best, in the NHL. First, team. The team that I think is currently the best in the NHL is the Buffalo Sabres. They have a bunch of guys that no one has even heard of, except for maybe Chris Drury, and lots of guys that have gone down because of injury this year, and yet they are still going to win the Eastern Conference's top seed for the playoffs and probably go deep again this year, possibly making the Stanley Cup final this time. This team just does not seem to know the meaning of the words "give up" or "defeat" for that matter. Watch out for these guys in the Eastern Conference, as I do feel sorry for the team that is going to come out of that crowd at the bottom of the standings for the playoffs and get that 8th seed, because they won't be in the playoffs for very long.
Now for player. Martin Brodeur has, so far, proven to everybody that he can carry his team to a division title, which he has had to do this year. But, Sidney Crosby is going to win the Art Ross Trophy before he's twenty, which would make him the youngest player to ever win it! (Wayne Gretzky tied Marcel Dionne in points in 1979-80, but scored 2 fewer goals than Dionne, giving Dionne the title) Now, Jordan Staal is looking like he is going to be a dandy of a player, leading the league in shooting percentage and shorthanded goals as a rookie, but he's only a rookie, so he's not in consideration here just yet (but give him a few years like this one though).
So, there you have it. There's the "best" in the NHL. Next time, try better to indicate the particular category you would like to have someone indicate the "best" in. That would help with the person's answer much more easier. Thank you.

Brodeur IS by far the best goalie and Crosby is the best skater. The best team (best shots at winning the cup) I think are Anaheim, SJ, NJ in no particular order.

Although it is conflicting according to records, I would have to say the Anahiem Ducks. They have an amazing goalie and good, solid offense.
If you meant according to players, although I hate to admit it because I am a passionate Rangers fan, I would have to go with Sidney Crosby because of his scoring and passing abilities.
In terms of goalie I would say Giguere on the Anaheim Ducks.
