Hondas have been very reliable bikes since Mr Honda began building motorized bicycles. He has failed in all his other adventures, and determined not to fail at this one. Hondas are the #1 selling motorcycles worldwide because of their dependability and low maintenance. I have owned many bikes in my 25 years of riding and Hondas have been the most reliable. My Yamaha, gave me problems with the carb and even when tuned and reset it was just a short time later the problems began again. I currently have a Honda Goldwing, 1987 and it has never had any problems and runs great being as old as it is. If it was me, I would go with the Honda they didn't get where they are today by making shotty bikes.

The v-star is a nice bike as well as the vtx, I cant say for sure about which would be better in that class. i own a 2005 Yamaha warrior 1700 i really enjoy it, It hasn't given me a single problem, I have owned yamaha products my whole life and they have outlasted every Honda, Suzuki and every other brand, dont get me wrong, Honda makes a good bike, but in my experience for longevity and availability of aftermarket parts, Yamaha is the way to go. hope this helps.

I would go with the Honda.
I have a Honda, and I'm just as happy as I could be with it.
When it comes time for maintenance, Honda has a great supply chain as well. Remember, it's not just the bike, but the support that comes with it.
Now, my experience with Yamahoppers---comes under the heading:
If you do not have something good to say, say nothing. So....
But it's your money. It's your choice as to which is best for you, and no one else can make the decision for you. Test ride both( if possible ), ask friends about both, check out chat sites for both bikes, and then YOU and only YOU make your choice( and that's another fun part of owning a bike).
Best of luck to you and
Ride Safe

Try them both. I have a VTX1300 retro and I love it.
Matter of fact, it's up for sale, I'm moving up to a Goldwing. If you know anyone interested let me know.

Remember, most of the people that say Honda are also the ones that say VW make the best cars, i.e clueless sheep following the crowd. But they heard someone else say it once so it must be true.
Test ride both and see what you prefer.
