All radar detectors work, but not all of them detect every type of radar. I hope you spent more than $50 on your radar detector, because the cheap ones will cause problems for you. I made the mistake of buying a cheap one at the Wal-Mart once, and I got a ticket. It never did warn me in advance. That's because it only detected certain types of radar. Automatic doors will set most of them off, but that still doesn't mean your radar detector will detect police radar in your area. I went to Radio Shack and bought a more expensive radar detector after I bought that cheap one. The one I have now works fine.

you can drive toward any business that has automatic doors on it it uses a similar signal that the radar guns use if its sets the detector off its working fine, and also if you haven't gotten a ticket ,that may be another good sign its working right ,good luck hope this helps.

Next time you are out driving around, flag down a cop and ask him to point his radar gun at you. Tell him you just want to test your radar detector. I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help you out. :)

Your best bet is to ask your freindly law enforcement officer, I am sure they would make sure it is working with a quick test of letting you fly by them as fast as you can go.
