When you hang toilet paper sheet side out,
the roll spins too quickly and results in wasted paper ...
(try pulling firmly on it and you will see what I mean)

By hanging the roll sheet side in (facing the wall),
you will only pull out the amount you want.
No wasted paper and the roll lasts longer.

What do you mean most females? Can you, the expert in toilet paper rolls I presume, kindly tell which is the proper way to hang a toilet roll. I personally change the toilet paper roll in my house for the past 12 years. Not once did I see my male spouse lift a finger to help, so how can any male know how to hang a toilet paper roll without any personal experience. What, did you read a book or something on this matter which makes you the expert, while you were sitting on the john. Give me a break, and ask an more intelligent question Einstein. What a sad state the world is in when we worry about toilet rolls.

In my house the towel bar is over the toilet roll, so if the towel happens to fall the toilet paper doesn't end up on the floor.

I'm the same as Barbara & have mine facing out. I also change it if someone puts it on backwards. I've even done it in public toilets which is pretty pathetic but I can't help it. I have 2 kids.

So when the kitty cat comes along and plays with the roll, and slaps it the whole roll doesn't come off on the floor. It just goes around and around. Cat is amused.... bathroom is still tidy.

I always thought it was over or under. It could be close to the wall either way.

I guess I'm in the minority. I have mine facing out. If someone puts it on "backwards" it bothers me & I have to change it. Don't know why.
