Fear is a emotion, learn to control it, and not let it control you. and if you should need help over-coming some of these fears, that seek it out, Sounds like you don,t like what they have become, and it perhaps awaits you, but only if you let it, But it does not have to be that way. Break out of that mold, and be your own person.

I am going to give you two real life scenarios.

There is a woman I love quite a lot in my family. I have always admired her. She is a very successful surgeon assistant. Because she is left handed, entertaining, brilliant, and has a delicate stitch she has taught many new plastic surgeons who have gone on to great glory, She has not been treated all that well. This is a woman who lives large with humility.

She had family to care for and never had children. It was always about the career and her other passions. Now she is questioning her value and unhappy about her image and her life. She never took time to have children or a family in that sense and I think, despite the fullness of her life, she is missing something.

A few months ago I was at a party. It was a Muslim ladies' dinner and there were educated ladies of all ages. One bright young thing who looked like an Irish lass asked for input on what to go into for university in the next year or two. The ladies were doctors and pharmacists and teachers etc and they had interesting ideas.

The young mother who is a doctor with toddlers said, "I don't recommend medicine as a doctor. You can fall behind too quickly and when you are having your children it is almost impossible to keep up without hurting them. Go into something like optometry or dentistry. Something that you can do a day a week or work back into as time passes."Basically she was reminded that she has to keep her future life as a mother in mind when planning her career. All of these women were very happy and fulfilled and the older ones all were successful in careers.

One said, "Find yourself a good man about five years older than yourself who seeks a wife. He will have the experience you need and you will have the gifts that he needs."

My advice would be to live your life on your own terms as you want. You know you are strong. Medicine is an extremely challenging career and success does take its toll. You sound capable and smart, not to mention well written.

Don't judge your Mom and sister too harshly. They are women living their lives to learn some lesson or another. You are aware of this and you have drive. You can do it. I have a daughter has often questioned her ability in Univeristy because her high grades come from serious work. She begins a scholarship for her Masters in a few months. You can do it I guarantee you.

Just push yourself to the max to make the grade. Find out what steps are necessary then just follow them.. It is only right you question and assess things before such a big commitment. You will do it.

First and foremost it is ok to be independent. Most men think it is natural to be the independent person from a very early age. Why can/t a woman!!!! No reason why anyone cannot be independent.
You have got to get that scared thing out of your way and change your attitude since this is your dream -you have nothing to worry about.
As you progress on this goal it is a lot of hard work, but since this is your dream it will be easier to succeed. So stop worrying and get on the road to your dream.

you won't turn out like your mom and older sister, because you know that you don't want to be like them and you can keep yourself from doing that. But, you really ought to stop worrying about the future so much...work hard for your dream and you'll accomplish it...just remember that through it all everything happens for a reason and your future will be as bright as you make it.

How old are you?
Younger then 16 you worry WAY too much! Believe in yourself and life will work its self out. All you have to do is work hard and I'm sure everything will work out for the better. :)

In the meantime enjoy being a kid! =)

You said yourself that you WANT to be more independent. Do what you WANT and do your best. I know you'll make it. If you want something bad enough, you'll work for it. Work is the key word here. You go girl!!
