The government doesn't need to control the internet! Why does it want to? Because those in power think the American public is stupid and incapable of making decision about appropriate newspapers, books, radio, movies, TV and of coarse, now the internet! But they know the public is beguiled by talk of morality. They readily disregard good advice about minding their own business. Don't forget these are the same people making laws by which they don't have to abide.

Government does not need to control the internet. In fact, neither the government nor anybody else can control it.

If the government didn't control it, they'd be more internet stalkers than we have now. There'd also be alot more illegal scams going on. I know a girl who takes her ex boyfriend's pictures and cut out his new fiancee's face and paste hers! Then she posts them places. And she got a picture of this girl and put a pic. of hoe be gone on her pic and pasted it up everywhere! These people didn't even know they were being exploited! Anybody can be whoever they want to on the internet. It would be alot worse if they weren't regulating those kinds of things. They would definately be alot more credit card theft too, and people could buy anything, even if it was illegal and could hurt people.

So you can have debate. If the companies take over, you won't. Let the FCC control it (except most staffers are now plants so they're letting the companies steal it).

The internet is a very accessible and easy to use medium of coomunication by people. Thus, it must be regulated to prevent abuses against children, indecency and fraud.

they dont controle the internet, but they can prosecute you for treason, or some other law if there is treasonus or illegal content on your website.
