What drugs do they normally give grief-stricken people to help them get through? I had a coworker whose son died last year and they gave her something that seemed to help her get through the funeral. Just wondering what would make someone so numb as I cry at the drop of a hat; cannot imagine my child dying.

Alot of the time it isn't the drug, but the shock and stress of losing a child that numbs a grieving parent. But the drugs they usually give a parent are valium, xanax, or ativan to get through the initial shock. Usually once the reality sets in, no amount of these drugs can stop the pain and grief, unless it completely puts them out.

I would recommend St John's Wort, but it doesn't work over night. It takes 6 weeks to get into the system, but it does work. I just went through an emotional period starting last November and it helped me a lot.

Probably gave her Xanax, Ativan or Klonopin to help her get through the funeral.

There are those few who cannot take drugs at all for that purpose, they can and do often have the "opposite" advertised effect and can lead to suicide.

The side affects of withdrawl of most of thses pills can be dangerous also.

I think it's sick how there's a pill for just about anything. If my son just died... I would probably smoke some pot. Just like I did when my boyfriend died. Self medicating rocks.

Some might prescribe a heavy sedative or an anti-depressant.

Seriously, pot would work a lot better
