Leaves are green on top and purple on the bottom. I think its tropical? does anybody know what type it is or what its called?

leaves are about 1.5" wide and 4" long. The stem is about 1/2" round no branches

Sorry. That is way too general and you should try a plant encyclopedia, available at a local book store or library.

Could be anything, would help to know the shape of the plants leaves and growth habits. Could be a rubber tree, hosta and so on....

try hgtv.com or bhg.com. There are alot of pics of plants. You should be able to find yours there.
