Like my husband, we had plans for tonight with our kids. He was supposed to be off of work at 5pm. It's 7:30pm and he is still at work because he doesn't know how to tell his job no?

Now I have to explain to the kids why we can do what we had planned for the evening. So not fair to them.

Don't blame him, i'm sure he feels worse than you but the last thing he needs after a hard days at work is to come home and have the one person he can rely on to scream at him and lecture him. YOu need to understand that he knows how you feel but he feels helpless. He needs your comfort, he does not want to feel like the whole world's against him.

I understand how you feel, because I have been in that position, and I can understand how he feels because at one time I was the workaholic. It isn't that he doesn't want to be with his family, it's that he has other responsibilities, and sometimes it is so hard to keep it all in balance. The next time this happens, go ahead and take the kiddos to where you were all going to go, giving him a call to meet you there when he gets off. It will shave some time off the travel time, let him know that you support him, while at the same time sending him the message that he needs to wrap up what he's doing at work.

I know what your we-uns are going through. My old man did that all the time. It's not that he's stupid, he's a workaholic. It's an actual problem that he has. Not to be taken lightly. Speak to him and help him through it. The end result will be more than worth it.

Sometimes... grownups have to work late... it helps to pay the bills. That's what I'd tell my kids, then I would take them out and have a good time without him.... life goes on, and his job may be jeopardized if he were to up and leave....
