Down South, it's considered "Protocol"! If I ever get married again, I will ask, yes!

Yes its proper and very nice, too. When our daughter was going to get married her boyfriend came to us and asked if we would give our blessing to them and we did. It was impressive to find a young man with manners and a future. They are still married after 8 years and 3 kids.

It depends on your girlfriend. I know alot of women who would expect this or at least find it very sweet. Personally, I dislike the idea intensely. It may be fine for other people, but if my fiance had asked my father for permission, I would have been upset. My dad and I actually joked for years that if anyone actually did ask him, he should say no, since that would be a sign that the guy didn't know me well enough to make marriage feasible. Ask yourself what you think your girlfriend would want. If you think she wouldn't care either way, then think about what her family would expect.

Yes, it is still proper to ask. Not many people do it anymore, but it's something that needs to be done more. It shows that yo are respectful, trustworthy, and have a head on your shoulders. Parents especially dads thinks it's traditional and that it's something that should definitely be done.

Certainly. Usually the prospective groom would ask permission of the prospective bride's father, but asking both parents would be somewhat more modern, I guess.

My husband did this, and I thought it was the sweetest thing ever. We had a bad history, and it really brought my parents around to knowing that he is a good, decent man.

Propose first and then invite the family for an outing and then announce you are engaged. It is nice to know you have honorable intentions

Absolutely. However, you 're going to want to be pretty darned sure of what the girlfriend's answer is gonna be first.
