I was thinking of a bearded dragon, but not to sure...it can't need anymore space than a 40 or 50 gallon tank, one that likes being held, and isnt a spaz, or to jumpy...is there any such reptile?
please answer

Since it sounds like snakes are out for you I will cover lizards.
I have leopard geckos and a couple of Mali uromastyx and they are terribly easy. The Mali is by far the easiest and most "user friendly" for lack of better terminology.
Mali's do not need much humidity. If you have a 55 gallon fill it 3-4 inches with birdseed toss in a couple of hides (one on each end) get a nice flat large slate or rock for it to bask on and a good uvb/a light and a strong heat lamp. They like to bask about 110-120 degrees F. I keep one end of the enclosure about 80-85 and the hot end about 100 or so and on the rock itself 110-120. They do not use water, we have tried giving our water and it fills it with sand. They eat greens, corn, dandelions, etc... Do some research on Mali's I think you will be surprised at how fun they are once you get one.

A 50 gallon tank is more than enough for a bearded dragon. It would also be a great choice since the bearded dragon is omnivorous so feeding is easier.
Just make sure that any vegetable matter is high calcium/low potassium. (bananas are really bad, strawberries are good)

I say corn snake, they are really cool and not hard to take care of. They love to be held and will just go to sleep in your shirt or wrap around your arm and sit there all day. They are not aggressive so you wont have a problem with bites. They aren't jumpy either, very layed back. And they do have personalities I guess. One of mine always liked to climb and keep climbing and was very mischievous while my other was just always wanting to be held and curl up on my lap. It was funny, it was kinda like a cat. lol Also there is no reason for your mom to be scared of them. They are actually very gentle. Go to a pet store with her where they have snakes and have them let you hold one, and just show her. They will not harm you unless you like jump at them and just try to make them mad which is really stupid!

Dont get a bearded dragon, they are really hard to take care of! A leapord gecko is a very good choice and so is 4 or 5 green anoles. My friend has 1 leapord gecko and she says they are very easy to take care of and are friendly too! Im not really sure about the care for green anoles. But i see a lot of people buying green anoles!

Bearded dragon
Leopard gecko
Corn snake (up to 6ft, but weighs less than a royal)
Royal or Ball python (up to around 5ft)
Hog Island Boa (3-6ft, females are larger)
All the above make great pets, but snakes are easier to keep than lizards due to only needing to be fed once a week as adults and only pooping 1-2 times a week. Lizards need to be fed daily and also poo daily

go with the bearded dragon if you have room for a 50 gallon tank
i had one myself for awhile and they are great pets.. i had to give "louie" to my sister when i changed apts, but i hope to get another when i move out
you can walk them on leashes.. he loved going outside and hunting for insects in our yard. they love to just walk around the apt, and they dont even get into much trouble.. and they readily eat vegetables, so you dont have to run up to the pet store every week
