I am an accounting student. With just a few more classes, i can get a minor in economics. Should I do it? Is it useful?

I think it is very useful. There are some theories and ideas in economics that you can apply to accounting and everyday life. I took economics in college and I felt it was very useful.

You should definately do it.

Hi -
I am an Economics major. If I were in your shoes I would not think twice about adding the Econ minor. Economics is a very useful field and if you are interested it can help you get a job with the government or even go to law school in the future if you would ever become interested. It is also always god to have a back up plan... =)

Yes! I majored in accounting and finance, and Economics definitely helps you understand how the Macro and Micro economy works. It's also very useful if you want to get into high banking positions and certain government positions where you can implement monetary and fiscal policies and make all kinds of money (and if you don't mind everyone hating you for it!). Just like on "Deal or no Deal" - no-one likes the banker!

Frankly no. A minor should give breadth to your character and that doesn't do that - I see money and more money. I'd look to something completely marketable such as english (technical writing) or speech communications (public speaking). I would also look to do something you ENJOY. Hey, if art strikes your fancy, have at it.

Plus, everyone in the free world knows that you're overlapping classes, so most employers will glaze over that minor thingy. Trust me, no one ever looks at my minor in chemistry since I'm a biochemistry major.

Like I said breadth. You have one time in your lifetime to broaden yourself - take the opportunity.

Yes I think it is useful and interesting addition to your degree but if you want something really useful I suggest taking a Management minor instead

It's definately a useful course to supplement accounting. I would seriously consider taking that class.
