To answer your question. Fifteen years ago, Ireland didn't really do anything special on St. Patrick's Day. The pubs were open, and they was some celebration on a small scale, but it was pretty much quiet.

I was there in 2005 during St. Patrick's Day and what a difference. Parades, people on the street, pubs celebrating, etc. The difference is they realized there is a market for the celebration. Americans were coming to Ireland to celebrate,,,,and they had money.

So now, they do celebrate St. Paddy!

Erm, Saint Patrick's day is the main holiday in a way. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Its a holiday for most, days off work, school, etc.

I don't understand why other countries make such a big deal of it. Sure, a lot of people have Irish ancestry, but that's true of England, Scotland etc, but they don't celebrate those saint days in places like America.

Do we WHAT, hell yea we party our a*s off for the next 3 day's & night's. Happy holiday is a bit too yank, its just happy St. Patricks day.
