i have a laptop already connected through a wireless router which is working fine. i want t connect my desktop computer so i bought a wireless lan usb adapter and installed it, it seems to be working fine and picking up signal but i still cant connect to the internet , hope someone can hep me, not sure what to do now, thankyou

You may have to add the MAC address for the USB adapter to the permitted list in your router/access point.

You'll have to read the documentation for the router for exact directions, but basically, you'll need to read-off the MAC addresson the USB adapter and add it to the list somewhere in the configuration of your router/access point.

You might have MAC filtering enabled if so you need to add the mac address of the desktop. if not reset the default settings in the router configuration and add the desktop.
you can access the configuration page by typing in the internet explorer address http://the number of the IP address of the router (usually starts with 1) you can find the address just by putting the mouse cursor in the top of the wireless connection icon in the lower right hand corner of the laptop's screen

which computer is the 'server' computer? did you run the wizard for setting up the wireless network on the desktop? if not, give that a shot, AFTER you decide with computer is going to be 'server' or host..
